About 40 cm high, tempera, birdeye oak |
Св. Серафим Саровский The Miracleworker was the outstanding figure as in Russian christianity so in all Orthodox tradition. All his icons are painted from several lifetime portraits. Though he was oficcialy canonized about 70 years after his departure, his glory spread Russia wide and people came to seek his advise, healing or just from curiosity in hundreds daily. This iconography depicts the saint while his hermitage in the forests, where he prayed several months kneeled on the rock he himself called The Golgotha. This icon was rather unusual task. The icon should have been copied from the example specified, which was itself an academic painting in oil. We rendered it in egg tempera (and on my opinion successfully). The panel was cut from a piece of birdeeye oak. |
