ARCHISTRATEGE ORTHODOX ICON PAINTING
|
|
It all begun at the middle of 1990's. The workshop was at the top of the kitchen table then. Books and materials were rare, but thanks to restoration work there were plenty of excellent examples. When the St. Michael church in the town of Maardu was built, the core of the workshop has formed - there were carpenters, guilders and gesso-workers, and iconographers, of course . Estonian old-believer's iconography was used as examples. Then also formed one of the main principles of our work - to use only the best materials and strictly follow the technologies. It takes labour of six or even seven people to
accomplish one icon. At the 2000-03 we have taught iconography and techniques of
icon painting at the Applied Arts Colledge at Arts Academy of Estonia.
There were over 30 students graduated. At 2006 we took part in Russian Museum project for restoration
and reconstuction of old-believers church in Mustvee, Estonia. In 15 years we have painted more than thousand icons, layed
many square
meters of goldleaf and hundreds of pounds of ground-primer. The most remarcable works were:
Ivan Dymov - graduated restorer and iconographer, he made his way from nameless student to wide known and highly honoured master in amazingly short time. He is the main striking force in our Workshop. Marina - god blessed guilder. Alexei (Raivo Nefjodov) - the elder, the mastermind and the
archive-keeper in the Workshop. We reside in the old beautiful city of Tallinn, Estonia.
